What is a ballistic shield?
A ballistic shield is a portable barrier made of soft or hard armor materials that stops bullets. Handheld models like the RapidShield give law enforcement, security teams, and first responders mobile cover they can deploy in seconds during an armed threat.
What is the difference between a ballistic shield and a riot shield?
A riot shield is clear polycarbonate designed to stop thrown objects and blunt strikes — it does not stop bullets. A ballistic shield is built from ballistic materials rated to defeat gunfire. If you need protection from firearms, only a ballistic-rated shield is appropriate.
What does Level IIIA protection stop?
Level IIIA ballistic protection is rated to stop virtually all common handgun rounds, including 9mm, .40 SW, .45 ACP, and .44 Magnum. It does not stop rifle rounds, which require Level III or IV hard armor plates.
Who uses handheld ballistic shields?
Police officers, school resource officers, security guards, EMS entering warm zones, houses of worship security teams, and prepared civilians. A handheld shield adds mobile cover for the first person through a door — the most exposed position in an armed encounter.
How heavy is a portable ballistic shield?

Is a foldable ballistic shield as protective as a rigid one?
A foldable or rollable soft-armor shield offers the same rated protection level across its surface as rigid soft-armor shields — the RapidShield is rated Level IIIA against handgun threats. Rigid shields with hard armor add rifle protection at several times the weight and cost.
What size is the RapidShield?
Deployed, the RapidShield measures 21 by 34 inches — covering head and torso in a kneeling or standing brace position. Rolled, it packs to roughly 10 by 10 inches for storage and carry.
How should a ballistic shield be carried and stored?

Does a ballistic shield expire?
Like all soft body armor, the ballistic package has a service life — typically five years from manufacture under normal storage conditions. Keep it away from prolonged moisture, extreme heat, and UV exposure to preserve performance.
