VEST CARRIERS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

VEST CARRIERS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a vest carrier?
A vest carrier is the outer shell of a body armor system - the garment that holds soft armor panels against your torso. It carries the armor, distributes its weight, and adds features like pockets, MOLLE webbing, and ID panels. Carriers on this page do not include ballistic panels.
Do these carriers come with armor?
No - these are carrier shells only, armor not included. They are built to hold Ace Link Level IIIA soft armor panels, sold separately. If you want a complete system, each carrier's product page links the matching vest with armor included.
What is a police outer carrier?
An outer carrier is worn over the uniform shirt instead of under it. It moves the weight of armor and duty gear from the belt to the torso, keeps equipment accessible, and lets officers remove the armor quickly when off the street - which is why departments increasingly authorize them.
Can I use my existing armor panels in these carriers?
If your panels match the carrier's size and cut, yes - our carriers accept standard-cut soft armor panels. Compare your panel dimensions against the carrier's size chart, and confirm fit before duty use. They are designed and tested with Ace Link panels.
MOLLE or laser-cut - which carrier style should I choose?
Classic MOLLE webbing (like the Patrol) accepts the widest range of pouches and is easy to reconfigure. Laser-cut MOLLE (like the Patrol LC) is lighter and snag-free with a cleaner profile. Both carry the same armor - choose by the gear you mount and the look your agency requires.
What is a uniform-style vest carrier?
A uniform carrier (like the Livewire or Primer) is styled to match a duty uniform shirt, so armor worn over the shirt still looks professional and approachable. Popular with patrol, security, and EMS roles where appearance policies matter.
How should a vest carrier fit?
Snug without restricting breathing or movement, with the armor covering your vital organs front and back. The carrier should sit level, not ride up when seated, and the shoulder straps should distribute weight evenly. Use the size chart for chest and torso measurements.
Can vest carriers hold plates as well as soft armor?
Some models include plate pockets for trauma plates or plate-backed configurations - check each product page. For dedicated rifle-plate setups, see our plate carriers instead; vest carriers are primarily built around soft armor.
How do I wash a vest carrier?
Remove the armor panels first - panels must never be machine washed. The empty carrier shell can typically be hand washed or machine washed gentle in cold water and air dried. Follow the care label, and never iron or tumble dry.
Which carriers work best for law enforcement?
The Patrol and Patrol LC are our most popular police outer carriers - full MOLLE or laser-cut load-bearing designs. The Livewire and Primer suit uniform-match policies, the High-Vis and SAR carriers cover EMS and search-and-rescue, and the MSOV supports special-operations loadouts.
Are outer carriers allowed by police departments?
Policies vary by agency, but outer carriers are increasingly authorized because they reduce back and hip strain from duty belts. Check your department's uniform policy - uniform-style carriers like the Livewire are often approved where tactical looks are not.
What is the difference between a vest carrier and a plate carrier?
A vest carrier holds flexible soft armor panels rated for handgun threats and is worn for full shifts. A plate carrier is a rig built around rigid rifle plates for high-threat situations. Different armor, different mission - many officers own both.
