Level 4 Q&A

What specific ballistic threats does this Level 4 body armor protect against?

NIJ Level IV is the highest level of ballistic protection available on the market. Level IV body armor is designed to stop high-velocity, armor-piercing (AP) rifle rounds, including the .30-06 M2 AP and 7.62x63mm AP rounds. It can also stop all intermediate rifle calibers, and several Armor Piercing rifle and sniper rounds as well.

Here is a list of common rifle calibers that level IV armor can stop.

  • Intermediate rifle rounds like 5.56x45mm Nato, 7.62x39mm, and 5.45x39mm
  • Battle rifle and precision rifle rounds like .308 winchester, 6.5 creedmoor, 30.06, 7.62x54r
  • Armor Penetrating rounds like 5.56 Green Tips, 7.62x51mm Black Tips, 30.06 AP rounds.

How does the weight of these plates impact overall mobility during tactical operations?

Because of the level of protection Level IV armor plates provide, they have to be heavier than other armor plates. However, our level IV armor plates have a Ceramic and PE Composite construction, which allows them to be lighter than steel plates available on the market. Our standard level IV armor plates weigh as little as 6 lbs. On the other hand, steel plates can weigh over 10 to 12 pounds per plate.

What material composition is used in these plates, and how does it enhance protection?

Our armor plates have either a Ceramic, or a Composite construction with a ceramic strike face, and an anti-penetration backing made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. The ceramic strike face shatters on impact to absorb energy, while the UHMWPE backing prevents penetration, enhancing ballistic protection while maintaining a lower weight. Using these materials also prevents any risk of spalling, which is a serious problem with steel armor plates.

Are the plates capable of stopping armor-piercing rounds, and how many hits can they take?

To meet NIJ Level IV standards, Armor plates need to take a single hit from a 30.06 Armor Penetrating round traveling at 2880 ft/s, however, our armor is capable of taking multiple hits. It can also easily absorb multiple hits from lower caliber armor penetrating rounds like .308 Black Tip AP rounds.

How comfortable are the plates when worn for extended periods, especially in active scenarios?

Our Level IV Composite plates are lighter than steel plates, which makes them more comfortable to wear for extended periods. Moreover, we also offer Multi Curve level IV plates, which conform to the wearer’s body because of its curved design, and offer enhanced comfort and mobility in active scenarios.

Is there any anti-spall coating to reduce fragmentation upon impact?

No, since our armor plates are made from ceramic materials rather than steel, there is no need for any anti spall coating. Spalling is an issue that occurs primarily with Steel plates.

Do the plates have a multi-hit capability, and what testing has been done to confirm this?

Yes, Ace Link Level IV armor plates are capable of stopping multiple hits, however, since they are made from ceramics, they can’t stop multiple hits like steel plates. Still, compared to other ceramic plates, which start to shatter after a single hit, our armor plates have a composite PE Ceramic Construction, with a PE Coating that keeps the ceramic plate intact even after it is hit, allowing for better multi hit protection. Still, it is important to keep in mind that any ceramic armor plate should be replaced after it is hit.

As far as official testing is concerned, our armor plates are tested to the NIJ Level IV standards, which means that they should stop a single hit from a 30.06 AP round, and multiple hits from lower calibers with ease.

Are the plates designed to work with specific plate carriers or any universal system?

You don’t need to get any specific plate carriers for our plates. They can be used in any plate carrier system accepting SAPI Medium and SAPI Large and 10×12” plates.

How thick are the plates, and does this affect agility or range of motion?

Our NIJ level IV Composite armor plates are 0.90” thick. Though they are thicker than lower level armor plates, they are still slim enough to ensure that your mobility or range of motion is not affected. Additionally, Our level IV armor plates are lightweight, resulting in a very agile armor system when paired with a good plate carrier. They offer excellent protection and comfort without slowing you down on the battlefield.

How do these Level 4 plates perform in extreme conditions such as water, heat, or freezing temperatures?

Generally, Ceramic Materials are susceptible to extreme heat, cold and moisture, especially if they’re not properly sealed and stored. However, Our armor plates are made with a waterproof cover, which allows performance even in extreme conditions. Moreover, as fast as operational capabilities are concerned, these armor plates can be used in any environment.

To ensure maximum durability, it’s important to follow manufacturer guidelines for storage and maintenance, including avoiding prolonged exposure to such extreme environments.

LEVEL 4 ADDITIONAL GUIDE

1.

Are these plates NIJ-certified, and how do they compare to other body armor standards worldwide?

Our level IV armor plates, along with other armor products are NIJ Tested. They are tested to the rigorous NIJ Standards, and offer reliable ballistic protection. As far as the comparison of NIJ Standards to other standards worldwide is considered, not many countries have such clear and properly formulated standards for body armor. In most countries worldwide, armor is limited for police officers, and Military, who follow worldwide standards like those set by NATO.

2.

What is the expected lifespan of the plates, and how should they be maintained for maximum effectiveness?

The expected lifespan of Level 4 ceramic plates typically ranges between 5 to 7 years, depending on usage and environmental exposure. Our level 4 armor plates come with a 5 year warranty, however, they can be used for longer if they are properly stored and maintained. Factors like drops, impact, moisture, and extreme temperatures can degrade the protective capabilities over time.

  • To maintain their effectiveness:
  • Store the plates in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid exposing them to harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Regularly inspect for cracks or damage.
  • Do not use the plates if they’ve been subjected to a hard impact, even if undamaged.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for storage and handling.

Proper care ensures the plates maintain their integrity throughout their lifespan.

3.

How do the plates affect the balance and weight distribution when used in combination with other gear?

Our armor plates are designed for both front and back use, providing excellent balance when paired in a quality plate carrier. This creates a stable system, even when additional gear is attached. However, the overall weight distribution and balance will largely depend on the plate carrier itself and how your gear is mounted. Choosing the right carrier and ensuring proper gear setup is key to maintaining optimal comfort and functionality, especially in tactical environments where mobility is essential.

4.

What type of warranty comes with the plates, and what scenarios does it cover?

Our level IV armor plates come with a 5 year warranty covering manufacturer defects and potentially damage during normal use. However specific warranty details can be checked with our customer care department

5.

Can these plates be used for both front and back protection, or are they optimized for one position?

Our standard Level IV armor plates are designed for both front and back use. However, our specialized Level IV Multi-Curve Plates are specifically engineered to contour to the wearer’s body, providing a more ergonomic fit. These plates are ideal for front placement, where comfort and mobility are critical. Their curved design ensures a closer, more natural fit, enhancing both protection and comfort during extended wear or in active situations.

6.

How do the plates perform against newer, high-velocity rounds and emerging ballistic threats?

The NIJ Testing and the ceramic’s strength of our level IV ensure that the armor remains effective against most modern and emerging high-velocity threats. However, there are some modern calibers, like the new 6.8 SPC, which was designed for the US Military’s NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapon Program). According to the Army, this new caliber can penetrate level 4 body armor, however, it should also be kept in mind that the 6.8mm SPC is a Military cartridge, which has higher velocities, and higher operating pressures than its civilian equivalent .277 Fury. Also, that military has a lot more options for their ammunition, including specialized armor penetrating rounds that can definitely defeat Level IV armor.

7.

What is the fit and contour of the plates like—will they conform well to different body shapes?

Our standard Level IV armor plates are designed to be used by everyone, they are available in a SAPI cut profile, which offers excellent coverage and mobility for all body types. However, our specialized Level IV Multi-Curve Plates are specifically engineered to contour to the wearer’s body, providing a more ergonomic fit. Their curved design ensures a closer, more natural fit for both men and women, enhancing protection and comfort during extended wear or in active situations.

8.

How does the price of these Level 4 plates compare to similar models on the market?

The price of armor plates depends on several factors, however, one of the most significant ones is their construction. Ceramic+PE composite plates tend to be more expensive than steel plates, or steel+Ceramic composite plates, however, they are lighter, and offer equal, if not better protection, since there is absolutely no chance of spalling.

So, when you compare our prices to other Ceramic+PE Plates, our prices are very competitive. Also, if you buy at the right time, you can take advantage of our several sales and promotions, which allow you to get really high quality armor, at an unbeatable price.
